Columbia Gas Beginning Natural Gas Line Replacement Project in Creston

Columbia Gas is set to begin a project in Creston to replace aging gas lines with newer, state-of-the-art plastic pipe. The work will take place largely on Main St. between Myers Rd. and Erie St. Carter Ave. is included as well. In total, crews will install roughly 5,500 feet of new pipe, serving approximately 100 residences.    
Residents should expect pre-camera work to begin in the next week or two. Columbia Gas and its contractor, Infrasource, will then formally start construction in late July or early August by installing the new main line and then proceed to service lines for individual properties. Indoor gas meters will be relocated outside as well.
The new plastic pipe has several benefits, including enhanced safety features and the ability to bend to the earth’s contour while expanding and contracting with shifting temperatures. Once installed, the modernized system will last longer and reduce the amount of future maintenance required for upkeep.
The project requires only a short interruption to natural gas service. Columbia Gas crews or contractors will contact affected customers to schedule the brief shut off and relight appointments.
All employees and contractors carry identification cards with their names and photograph and must show them upon request. In light of COVID-19, crews are also following strict recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to keep everyone safe.

The week of June 28th thru July 2nd , if you would like to rent a building at the park, you will need to contact Karen at the Municipal Building on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 8:am through 4:30pm. Beginning the 6th of July, you can reserve buildings by contacting Marti at the Police Department on Monday through Friday from 8:00am through 4:30pm.

Wayne County Resident Tire Collection Program:

1)      Residents may call the Wayne County Health Department on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday at 330-264-2426 option 2 to schedule an appointment from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm to bring their tires.

2)      Passenger and light truck tires only. No other tires will be accepted. Tires may be on or off the rim.

3)      Residents are limited to 10 tires per person per year. A driver’s license is required.

4)      Please pass this info on if you get calls that there is NO dumping of tires at the old location of Goodwill. Tires illegally dumped can receive a fine of up to $500 under R.C. 3767.32.

The Village of Creston will be flushing hydrants the week of August 16 – August 22.
Signs will be posted at individual streets as the hydrant flushing takes place.
Hydrants will be flushed as time permits during the week.
If water appears rusty, please refrain from doing laundry until water clears.
